Ben Wolgamot enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Little Giants. His main duties include working with infielders and hitters, with an emphasis on base-running. Coach Wolgamot will also be working in the Dean’s of Students Office on campus.
Wolgamot comes to Wabash from Danville Area Community College where he was an assistant coach under Tim Bunton. At Danville, he served as the hitting coach and led the Jaguars to a .333 team batting average. He also handled the base-running efforts, while helping lead the Jaguars to a 23-23 record.
Wolgamot is a graduate of Purdue University. As a Boilermaker, he was a two-year letter winner while playing for Head Coach Doug Schreiber. In 2008, Wolgamot earned 1st-team All-Big Ten honors as a 2nd baseman. He hit .368 (2nd on the team) while starting 45 games for Purdue in 2008.
Prior to being at Purdue, Wolgamot played two years at Danville Area Community College, in Danville, Illinois. In his time at Danville, Wolgamot was a two-time All-Region Honoree. He had a stellar sophomore year in 2007 at D.A.C.C., earning 1st team All-Conference, 1st team All-Region, and 1st Team All-District honors. Also in 2007, Wolgamot earned the Rawlings Gold Glove Award at 2nd base and was named NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Year.
Following graduation, Ben played one year for the Laredo Broncos of the United League, an independent professional baseball league in Texas.
Ben is a native of Danville, Illinois and currently resides in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
