Mark Shaylor ‘ 14 – Sunday held something that I certainly wasn’t expecting: the Museum of Art and Design. Also referred to as MAD, the museum showcases artists on five floors based on their talents and preferred mediums from what I could tell. We got to visit with some of the artists in their studios while they worked on projects scheduled for success.
My absolute favorite exhibit had to be the entire fourth floor comprised entirely of glass-based pieces. Immediately when the elevator opens to the floor, the first piece displayed is a captivatingly ornate chandelier half-broken on a dais. The creation of the piece alone must have been daunting, but to make it appear as if it were in the middle of breaking during a fall blew my mind. It was the best feature of the trip, by far, in my opinion.
