Jim Amidon ’87 to talk OLAB at Carmel Rotary

Jim Amidon ’87,  Senior Director of Communications and Marketing, is also the Director of OLAB (Opportunities to Learn About Business), the on-campus summer business camp week for rising high school seniors.  The Rotary Club of Carmel is one of the sponsors of OLAB, recruiting local Carmel students and giving money to help the free program continue.  Jim will be the guest speaker at the weekly Carmel Rotary luncheon meeting on January 11 in Carmel.

More about OLAB: In 1973, several Indiana business leaders and Wabash academics envisioned a summer program similar to Boys and Girls State that focused on introducing high school students to the world of business.  Founding members of OLAB included: Benjamin Rogge, Wabash Economics professor and Dean of the College; Bill Bonifield, Wabash Economics professor and later VP of Lilly Endowment; David Hadley, Wabash Political Science professor; Joseph O’Rourke, Wabash Speech professor; Alex Carroll, Jack Engledow, and Bob Hall, Indianapolis business leaders; The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.   Since 1973, over 2,400 students from Indiana, the United States, and at least six foreign countries have participated in the program.

OLAB 2013 Application Deadline is April 20, 2013!
Students who will be entering their senior year in high school in August of 2013 are eligible to apply to OLAB. You do not have to be an Indiana resident, nor do you need to be planning a career in business. OLAB participants are young women and men with an interest in the market economy and the workings of business. Remember, OLAB is FREE if you are accepted into the program.  Applications for OLAB 2013, which will run from July 7-13, 2013, are currently being accepted.  Click here  to download a brochure and application, and please do pass this information on to high school juniors who might be interested!
